What kind of content do you post on your company’s Instagram? When we first started, we made the mistake of always posting the services we offered. Every post seemed like an ad. We got no activity. No comments, no likes. Does this sound a little too familiar?
What some companies seem to forget is that social media is supposed to be fun. Shocking! We know. While it doesn’t hurt to plug your products here and there, they should not be the main focus. We posted a photo of our office space and it got waaaaaaaay more interaction than our last 5 posts. People like to see people. If you put a face to the business, people will interact.
Vary Your Posts
We try to post more when we go out as a team to show our company culture. Every Friday we go out to lunch and have margaritas. It is tradition! We vary the restaurant but the frozen margaritas stay the same. People love to see that. There’s no perfect way to post things. It could be different for different brands. But the fact of the matter is that Instagram posts should not be just about your products.
Have Fun with Your Brand!
Make it exciting! Add some emojis. Don’t take yourself so seriously. The biggest mistake we see with small businesses is they don’t interact with their target audience. They send cold emails. They make cold calls. And that’s it. You know what we do with our leads? We follow them on Instagram. We add them to our LinkedIn. Then we send them messages.
Reach Out to People!
Don’t be afraid to send warm introduction messages. Everything doesn’t have to be a sale right away. Let them get to know you first. Once you have them on your social, then you can target them through social ads. But don’t make that the only content they see! If they follow a company and all they see is “BUY OUR STUFF!”, they will quickly unfollow. You don’t want that.
Posting to Instagram is not difficult. The difficult part is trying to find content that you think your followers are going to find engaging. Finding the right balance will help tremendously in the long run. Need some help leveraging your social media?
